"It’s one of 2017’s first great electronic full-lengths, and makes it look easy." -Sputnik Music
Curved Light is the solo synthesizer moniker of Baltimore/Austin-based musician Peter Tran. One half of the Baltimore electronic duo HD Sunrise (Patient Sounds), Tran also spent time in beloved experimental outfits Hume and Les Rhinocéros. As Curved Light, he has released music on Gentle Reminder Records and has a forthcoming release on Austin’s Holodeck Records. Recorded in Summer 2016, Reversion collects six sonically rich synthesized analog explorations. “Test Selection” gradually layers colorful washes and bending melodies to gurgles and drones that slowly collapse and regenerate. “Disquiet” economically and blissfully builds ambient ripples on top of each other as pitch-shifted flutters take flight while “Blush Response” employs a similar technique to different ends.
In Peter’s words:
Reversion was recorded immediately following months of being on the road. Before leaving for that tour, I was struggling to find direction, both in and outside music. Reversion carries some of the answers I've found, being a pure response to my experiences while traveling. It also documents a new way of viewing the studio, treating each instrument as a modular piece to the reconstructed whole. Each track was recorded in a single take on vintage analog/modular synthesizers and an assortment of processors, each song utilizing its own unique system/patch.
Reversion is the third release on Atlantic Rhythms, a new label releasing deep, contemporary music on limited-run cassettes paired with hand-screened artwork. The tape is limited to 100 physical copies with digital download code, as well as a full-sized, hand-screened poster. Starting Feb. 10, 2017, a digital version of the album will be available exclusively through Bandcamp
