“Not Even The Ghosts They Were,” the second single from George Cory Todd’s forthcoming album That Dark Electric, encapsulates the composer’s sound and musical process. Pieced together note-by-note, Todd meticulously built the piece from old voice memos -- sketches of piano melodies and percussion -- creating one of the more raw, emotional moments on That Dark Electric. “Not Even The Ghosts They Were” sounds within the realm of a flashback as if a song was half-remembered and built back shard by shard.

Three remixes from Haldeman, HALCYON, and Omar Akrouche highlight the second of two remix EPs commemorating the release of That Dark Electric.

Brooklyn-based Haldeman burrows deep into the melodic potential of “Not Even The Ghosts They Were,” by layering sub bass, arpeggiated tones, and percussive scamper. Halcyon’s “A Bottom So Lovely” flips the original track into a full-on sound world complete with kaleidoscopic samples meshing in ways familiar and cerebral. Omar Akrouche’s closing reinterpretation of “Ghosts” captures the poignancy and ambles in the beauty in the original.

All proceeds from this EP will go to Black Trans Femmes in the Arts. The mission of the BTFA Collective is to connect the community of black trans women and non-binary femmes in the arts and to build power among ourselves:
