about

Atlantic Rhythms is very excited to announce Eraserhood, the new release from Jeff Zeigler and Dash Lewis. Zeigler owns and operates Uniform Recording and is a producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist from Philadelphia, PA. Synthesist, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Dash Lewis is based in Richmond, VA. The two collaborators are both prolific musicians in their own right, steeped in their respective scenes.

The Eraserhood section of Philadelphia (aka Callowhill) is where, until recently, Zeigler lived and ran his studio for 13 years. Once a post-industrial inspiration for David Lynch’s Eraserhead, the neighborhood is now on the other side of a condo and shiny shared workspaces boom. Even the mural at PhilaMOCA commemorating Jack Nance’s character in the movie is now gone. Jeff and Dash wrote, recorded, and mixed the album at the old studio -- one of the last projects to come out of that incarnation of Zeigler’s studio. The two spent so hours and hours in that version of Uniform, both as friends and collaborators, so they decided to honor that space and neighborhood by naming the album Eraserhood.

“Observatories,” the first offering from Eraserhood, establishes the duo’s hypnotic and reflective impulses. As the piece slowly builds, Ziegler and Lewis don’t rush anything. Instead, the two reel the listener in with intention and patience. Their sound is built on a potent mix of rich synth layers, Motorik rhythms, and vaporous melodies.

The album collects four of these longform and hypnotic synth-psych pieces. Each one is ready-made for contemplative, deep listening. Over the course of several recording sessions, Zeigler and Lewis began taping their no-expectation studio sessions. Those cathartic sessions took shape more and more as the two began to hear a unique sound develop. Eraserhood slowly seduces while never relinquishing forward motion.
